Well it is so, after having kept it by my side and used it for over two weeks on all possible occasions (mountains, sea, city, work meetings, subway, car, bed, bathroom:), everywhere) and having read two books and some personal documents, I could only enthusiastically propose it again in a "review" version in my curiosity blog on Proximity Marketing. First of all, here is a video that best introduces this ebook reader to you.

I won't let you know how I got it, but I can't help but thank my friend Enrico! I also leave out some technical aspects that I don't care to delve into. I'll get to the point, that is, why I consider it an important object and worthy of being taken into consideration.

More or less all of us spend periods of our working and personal lives reading pages and pages of books. Often magazines. Every now and then some newspaper article. Some will read more newspapers than others. Some people read all the time. We all read almost all of our information on paper. I still notice in many people that eagerness and "bad" habit of printing even emails and news that come from the web on paper. In short, we still use paper and we will do so for a long time to come, without worrying about trees, the environment and the fact that there is an alternative now and it is only the beginning.

The Kindle is an example of this, but more so than the instrument is the model that is slowly evolving around it. A model that is defining an online system made up of subscriptions, purchases, p2p networks and much more capable of increasingly pushing the use of information in electronic format to replace paper. Technology plays an important role in the model and will evolve the reading tools over time, so that they can be increasingly flexible, portable and easy to use. And the Kindle in question is certainly a good starting point despite some flaws that hide a long commercial and marketing plan (implementation of functions in subsequent versions) rather than inability. Returning to the model, Amazon was the first to hit the mark. How Apple has used its online store and makes thousands of books available that can also be purchased directly from the Kindle. An already large online community comments and provides information on the available titles. Reviews, previews and comments are available to all users and as happens on the Apple Store, even on Amazon it is possible to easily find what we want by purchasing it immediately.

Someone turned up their nose when, showing them the Kindle, I began with "...eh Gianni, I brought you the book of the future!" or my eighty-five year old grandmother when I told her “Grandma! you who have read a lot, what do you think of this? tomorrow children at school will be able to stop carrying kilos and kilos of paper on their shoulders and will be able to read texts more comfortably, noting down and retrieving information from the internet!". It's only a matter of time but soon this important revolution will begin to take its first steps and we will all start reading information, books and much more on our Kindle 5, iPhone, GooglePhone, Netbook, iBook, etc....

I conclude my review with some notes on the technical aspect that will be important to evolve, i.e. usability so that the user experience can push for change. The Kindle offers an excellent display in a very large screen, with an enviable brightness that under the sun has something incredible without tiring the eyes. The ability to listen to music in the background, highlight and take notes while reading, although not easy to access and use, complete the basic functions. I synchronize my Kindle 2 with the Mac with free software Caliber and through this tips I managed to connect it to the internet without the impediment due to the lack of 3G wireless connections in Europe. I miss the touchscreen but I do without it, for now what it offers is enough for me and the reading opportunities have increased greatly, the small work breaks have become an opportunity to resume reading where I left off.

For Proximity Marketing I have something in mind but it's still early. I'm waiting until I've tried reading some personal documents and then perhaps my mind will have given birth to something useful for the market.

The first reading was “I am legend” by Richard Matheson.
Happy Kindle everyone!
